Mom’s Millionaire dies at 21

Lexington, KY — Mom’s Millionaire, who won just three of 18 starts and $56,815 over her two-year racing career that spanned 2002-03, but acclaimed immediate fame as a broodmare when her first foal was the world champion filly trotter Snow White, died at Lindy Farms of Connecticut on Aug. 12, 2021.

Mom’s Millionaire, who took a time-trial mark of 1:54.4 in 2003 at The Red Mile, was 21.

Originally bought as a yearling for $37,000, the daughter of Pine Chip was purchased by Moni Market Breeders at the 2003 Mixed Sale in Harrisburg for $62,000. She was then bred to Self Possessed, with the mating resulting in Snow White, who went on to earn $1,433,551 on the racetrack.

Snow White had a sensational 2-year-old year in 2007 when she won 11 of 13 races, including the Breeders Crown, Goldsmith Maid and Oakville. She trotted to her career best and a world record for 2-year-old trotters of both sexes when she won an International Stallion Stake division at The Red Mile in 1:52.4.

Easily voted the 2007 2-year-old Filly Trotter of the Year in both the U.S. and Canada, Snow White came into her sophomore season with high expectations that included the possibility of starting against the boys in the Hambletonian. However, health issues limited her starts that year and impacted her career. Snow White died on July 2, 2009, at the age of four after suffering a twisted intestine.

Mom’s Millionaire also produced Thats All Moni, a daughter of Cantab Hall, who amassed earnings of $501,642. Thats All Moni had nine wins over her career, including a Bluegrass division, Pennsylvania Sires Stakes split and eliminations of the Peaceful Way (second in the final) and Breeders Crown at two and the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes final and a Bluegrass division at three.

Mom’s Millionaire’s foals also include the $238,324 winner Top Dollar, the $188,851 winner Hillustrious, who won six races at two and three before being exported, and the $175,737 winner Sweet Shirley Mae, who finished second in the 2020 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes final for 3-year-old filly trotters.
