Rodney F. Jungquist, 98, dies

Columbus, OH — Rodney F. Jungquist arrived at the winner’s circle one last time on Aug. 4, 2021. He was 98 years old.

He spent 73 years of the 98 years with his loving wife Louise by his side. She preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 2017.

His love of the harness racing industry was inherited from his father, Fredolph Jungquist, who was a long time west coast harness horseman. Mr. Jungquist worked alongside his father after returning from his service in the Army, achieving the rank of Major, during World War II on the European Front.

There hasn’t been a day go by that he did not own a harness horse. He and Louise started a family and that family has crossed four generations of harness horse people. His son David and wife Mary raced mainly in Canada and the United States. His daughter Megan Parker was involved in the sport mainly in Ohio. His son Jon and his wife Linda also raced in the United States and Canada.

His grandson, James Jungquist and his fiancée Amber, now carry the purple and white banner in Canada and the United States. His granddaughter, Crystal Jungquist, has been an owner over two decades.

Mr. Jungquist leaves behind six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His family and many friends will greatly miss this fine gentleman.
