Monticello cancels after five races on Monday

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — The rains were intermittent for most of the morning in the southern New York Catskill Mountains on Monday (August 15) but as it got later in the day the rains began to fall persistently. Then, the clouds burst and the falling rain was more than the grounds could hold and water was everywhere, especially on the racetrack.

And due to the terrible rainstorm, Monticello Raceway had to cancel its Monday race card after the fifth race was completed.

Prior to the cancelation, two of the carded three New York Sire Stakes late closers for sophomore colt and gelding pacers were completed, but one had yet to go to post.

According to Tim Gordon, the Executive Director of the Fund that oversees the New York Sire Stakes program, the $12,200 purse for that unraced NYSS late closer pace will be divided equally among the seven entrants but no Sire Stakes points will be added to each of the starters’ seasonal resumes.
