Monticello, NY – Monticello Raceway will host its second leg of New York Sire Stakes on Monday (July 7). The nine-race card features two divisions of sire stakes for 2-year-old male trotters vying for more than $52,000 each and two divisions of the $20,000 Excelsior Series.
Last week this group competed at Saratoga Raceway, and both division winners are in the first sire stakes event. The first $53,500 division of sire stakes is the day’s first race, a six-horse field in which AI (PP3-Jason Bartlett) has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. He was a winner in his previous start at Saratoga in a NYSS event in 1:58.3. The son of Chapter Seven is trained by Ron Burke. Secured (PP4-Ake Svanstedt) was also a division winner last start in 1:59.2. The son of Chapter Seven is trained and part owned by Svanstedt.
The second division, worth $52,500, is a five-horse field. Read The Room (PP2-Svanstedt) is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. Angry Pete (PP4-John Stark Jr.), who finished second to Secured last time out, and Titans Mischief (PP5–Matt Kakaley), who was second to AI, are also in the field.
In Excelsior action, Dress Shoes (PP2-Bartlett) won his Excelsior division last week at the Spa in 2:03.4. The son of The Veteran is trained by Ann Yurenka. In the second Excelsior split, Footsteps Falco (PP2-Bartlett) is the only starter to have a start under his belt. He was third last start out for owner-trainer Jared Bako.
Post time is 12:10 p.m. (EDT).
