by Bill Peters, Regional Coordinator, the Ohio Fair Racing Conference

Edgerton, OH — The Williams County Fair at Montpelier, Ohio, completed the last prep in the Ohio Fair Racing Conference before the Delaware County Fair in Delaware with an eight-race card on Thursday (Sept. 17).

This is Delaware’s first year as a member of the Conference and the Fair will race at least one Conference race on each of their five days of racing, which are Sunday (Sept. 20) through Thursday (Sept. 24).

Palone Ranger (Western Ideal-Mercy Mercy Mercy) turned in the fastest mile at the two-day Williams County Fair meet in winning the Ohio Ladies Pace Series race in 1:59.2 for Tabatha Canarr. Matt Rheinheimer trains the 12-year-old stallion for the Dojea Stables. The win pushed Palone Ranger’s lifetime earnings to $1,260,745.

Duke Sugg steered Defiant Victory (Victory Sam-GT’s Defiance) to the fastest trot at the fair in capturing the 3-year-old filly trot in 2:04.2. Mike Medors trains the filly and also co-owns her with Tina Sutermeister.

Greg Bateson and Mark Headworth shared driving honors for the meet with four wins each. The training accolades went to Herb LeVan with three victories.

Hats off to the Williams County Fair Board, led by speed superintendent Al Goebel, for putting on a successful meet. Also, thanks to Roy and Scott Stantz for their work on the track and to Charlotte and Eric Stantz, Sharon Steinke, and Trudy Peters for selling race programs and running the grandstand giveaways. Last, but not least, a big thanks to former Fair Board members Leonard Ludwig, Lou Mollett, and John McDonald for helping out wherever needed.
