Oak Harbor, OH — The Ottawa County Fair at Oak Harbor, Ohio, hosted the Northwestern Ohio Colt Racing Association 2- and 3-year-old colt and filly stakes along with four overnight races on Monday afternoon (July 16). Temperatures were in the mid-90s for the 13-race program.

Sir James (Master Glide-That Lady’s Hot) broke the track record for 2-year-old colt trotters with a mile in 2:03 in the trot for non-winners of $2,000 lifetime. The old record was 2:05 by Doitlikemydad in 2004. Mark Headworth drove Sir James for owners Dale Leu and Jim Mulinix.

Mulinix, who had just won the Meadowlands Pace on Saturday with A Rocknroll Dance, also does the training on Sir James. It was the first lifetime start for Sir James.

Mulinix, who rarely drives in races anymore, also drove two 2-year-olds making their initial starts on the Monday card.

In stakes action, Melissa LeVan’s Hanky L (Stand Forever-Sheer Sahbra) took the 2-year-old colt pace in 2:05.2. Herb LeVan trains the gelding with Jack Dailey doing the driving.

Madd Hatter (Jailhouse Jesse-Millenium Lass) captured the fastest split of the 3-year-old colt trot in 2:03. Greg Bateson drove Madd Hatter for trainer Barb Lewis, who co-owns the gelding with Michael Pozefsky. The LeVan-Dailey combination found the winner’s circle in the other division with Holdie L (Trainforthefuture-Spice Exchange) after a mile in 2:07.2.

Trottin On Over (Neely Dunn-Hallie Coy) was victorious in the 2-year-old colt trot for owner Emil Konesky and trainer-driver Mark Headworth. Trottin On Over toured the Oak Harbor oval in 2:06.1.

Where U At (Feelin Friskie-Locator) won the 3-year-old colt pace in 2:00.4. Suzanne Bates and Robyn McGhee pay the bills on Where U At with Ty Bates doing the training. Dan Venier picked up the winning catch-drive on the colt.

John Konesky III steered Countonme (Full Count-Indian Hill Ruby) to victory in the 2-year-old filly trot. Konesky also trains the filly and co-owns her with his son, Patrick. Countonme’s winning mile was in 2:15.2.

The 2-year-old filly pace went to Melissa L (Feelin Friskie-Beach Sandals) in 2:05.1. Jack Dailey piloted the filly for owner Melissa LeVan and trainer Herb LeVan.

Mark Headworth guided Screamin Dreamin (Ilooklikemymom-Flowing Jody) to a win in the 3-year-old filly trot. Ray Sugg trains the filly for Amrheinsracingstablellc. Screamin Dreamin circled the Ottawa County Fair twice-around in 2:05.1.

Ben Ott’s Friskie D (Feelin Friskie-Double E Hanover) took home the winner’s share in the 3-year-old filly pace after a mile in 2:03.2. Tom Marts, Jr. does the training and driving on Friskie D. The blanket for the race was given in memory of Jim Walter, who was the treasurer of the Ottawa County Harness Horsemen’s Association for 26 years. He died this past March.

The next stop on the Northwestern Ohio Colt Racing Association circuit will be at the Wood County Fair at Bowling Green on Tuesday, July 31. Post time for the one-session meet will be at 6 p.m.
