Marlborough, MA — The New England chapter of U.S. Harness Writers is accepting chapter nominations for its ninth annual Iron Man award.
Since 2000 the chapter has been presenting the award, usually at its Hall of Fame awards program, which this year will mark its 30th and will take place at Rockingham Park in Salem, N.H.
The award is open to driver-trainer-owners and contributors to the sport and is based on one’s charactor and longevity in harness racing (at least 20 years).
Past recipients include Orrin Phipps (2000); Dave Cochrane (2001); Bob Tisbert (2002); Winston Campbell Sr. (2003); Leonard LeBlanc (2004); Elmer Smith (2005); Robert Lieberman (2006); and William Pillsbury (2007).
Nominations should be sent to the chapter president and the recipient will be selected prior to the awards program (date to be announced).
Four other major award award recipients will be cited this summer. Debbie and Dave Little will receive the second annual Joseph A. Vaccaro Memorial Award over the July 4th Hall of Fame weekend events at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y., and Edward Callahan, Bruce Ranger and the late Harry Brushie will receive the chapter’s prestigious New England Hall of Fame awards at their induction in August.
