New Jersey Sire Stakes at Freehold Friday

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway’s 11-race program this Friday (Sept. 4) is headlined by a pair of New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund races for 3-year-old trotters.

The division for fillies drew a field of six, and is scheduled as the third race, with a listed post time of 1:10 p.m. The expected favorite is Common Sense S, for trainer Åke Svanstedt and driver Steve Smith. A winner of several stakes races this year, Common Sense S is seeking her first win of her sophomore campaign. She is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Continentalvictory at The Meadowlands and has post position five for this race.

Her five rivals all exit the first leg of the series, which was held last Friday. The best finisher of the group, Alyvia Deo, finished third at 45-1 last week. She has post position three here for trainer Rob Harmon and driver Vinny Ginsburg.

The division for colts and geldings features a field of eight, and will go as the fifth race, scheduled to be run at 1:50 p.m. Marcus Melander sends out a pair: Southwind Hillrazr, coming off a runner-up finish against winners at Harrah’s Philadelphia, and Fly Eagle Fly, a recent maiden winner at that track. They drew the inside two post positions.

Freehold’s Friday card also features two carryovers. The early Pick-4, beginning in race two, has a carryover of $1,223.86. The Pick-5, which starts in race five, features a carryover of $863.91.

The first race at Freehold on Friday begins at about 12:30 p.m. Eastern.
