New track record set at Great Darke County Fair

Greenville, OH — The final night of racing at the weeklong meet at the Great Darke County Fair concluded with the Ron Burke trained 4-year-old Western Terror gelding, Take It Back Terry setting a new track record on the pace in 1:53.3 in the 2nd annual Gene Riegle Memorial Open Pace.

Take It Back Terry, driven to victory by the sport’s all-time winningest driver Dave Palone, won by a head who over Ardyen Ace who was driven by Jack Daily. Jack Daily led the meet with 17 wins. Dave Palone had a driving triple on the final card.

Earlier in the afternoon in an overnight trot event, Moveman, who is trained by Maria Howard and driven by Brandon Bates, set a new track record with a winning effort in 1:59 flat.

Kirby Wilcox, president of the Darke County Harness Horsemen’s Association was pleased with the meet, “We can’t thank enough the trainers and owners and drivers who raced with us this year. The Burke’s are a class act. Mickey Sr. brought their horse and held court here for two days! Ronnie said he loved our track and Dave Palone’s record speaks for itself. The fans love Dave and he loves them, he’s a great guy and very down to earth”.
