Schenectady, NY — In an effort to assist horsemen in their breeding for 2018, the New York Sire Stakes has released individual stallion profiles online as part of the stallion directory for the coming breeding season.

The online listings and annual publication contain information on pedigree, career statistics and earnings, and stud fees of registered, New York-bred Standardbred stallions.

With the publication of individual profiles online, the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund (FUND) looks to highlight new stallions to the program and afford Standardbred owners and breeders with advanced notice of this year’s registrants.

Stallion applications for the 2018 breeding season are being accepted until Jan. 1, 2018. New this year, all registered stallions will receive a complimentary, full-page pedigree ad in the stallion directory. Eligibility forms and terms and requirements can be found at www.nysirestakes.com/forms. Release of the full 2018 printed and digital stallion directory is expected in January.

The FUND also this week released proposed schedules for two of its three tiers of racing that make up the NYSS program: The New York Sire Stakes and the Excelsior Series. Date for the County Fair Racing Series have yet to be announced. The NYSS and Excelsior Series seasons are proposed to begin in May 2018. All schedules are currently pending board approval.

The New York Sire Stakes is the state’s premier harness racing program designed to stimulate the breeding, buying and racing of Standardbred horses in New York State. The NYSS is the nation’s oldest harness racing program of its kind, and is administered by the FUND, which provides assistance to county agricultural societies to maintain and repair racing facilities. The FUND also contributes to both the statewide 4-H program and the Dr. Harry M. Zweig Fund for Equine Research at Cornell University.
