Nominations for late closers at Hicksville, Ohio, close on August 1

Edgerton, OH — Horsemen are reminded that the nominations for the four late closers at the Defiance County Fair at Hicksville, Ohio, on Sunday (August 21) will close on Monday (August 1.)

The four races are the Chuck Peter Memorial Trot and Jay and Helen Volkert Memorial Pace for 2-year-olds and the Defiance County Area Horsemen Association Trot and Jim Corkwell Memorial Pace for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds.

A nomination fee of $50 is due on August 1 with the races having an entry fee of $75. All nomination fees and entry fees will be added to a base purse of $2,250 to make the final purse. All four races are for stallions, geldings, and mares (open to the world.)

The August 21 race program will also include the Gene L. Vance Memorial Pace for 4-year-olds and up (a leg of the Signature Series) with an estimated purse of $3,750, a free-for-all trot with a purse of $1,200, and a pace and a trot for non-winners of $6,000 lifetime with also-eligibles of non-winners of $2,000 in 2016 and $3,000 claimers. The purse on each of the non-winners races will be $800.
