Northfield, OH – In much the same way Hunter Myers would spring into action to help someone, the Northfield Park horsemen and women set their grieving of Hunter aside and came together to support another young person in need.
Emma Hershberger, 19 the girlfriend of driver Tyler Angus was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is currently undergoing treatments. Due to her hospital stay she was unable to attend the June 24th golf outing held at Racoon Hills Golf Course in Kent, Ohio on her behalf but her spirit was felt throughout the event. 78 golfers and several volunteers braved the brutal hot temperatures in the mid 90s to not only golf but generously reach into their pockets and raised over $10,000 to help sustain Emma until she is well enough to return to work.
Donations country wide, in and out of the harness racing world were collected and raffled off in gift baskets along with several big-ticket items which were silently auctioned. The event, open to the public encouraged horsemen to bring along friends and family not familiar with the industry including Polly Loney’s high school golf coach, Greg Harris who made complimentary comments on how well the outing went.
Emma who had recently became known around the backstretch by picking up catch-paddocks posted on her Facebook, “I wanna thank everyone for all the support you have shown and provided for me, it truly is amazing! I’m overwhelmed and very grateful, yes, life is hard lately but amazing friends make it so much easier and I couldn’t do it without you guys, so thank you and I hope to see everyone again soon.”
