Ohio Fair champions crowned at Hollywood Dayton Raceway

Dayton, OH — Eight Ohio Fairs finals champions were crowned on Thursday night (Oct. 1) on a cool windy night at Hollywood Dayton Raceway. When the dust settled five favorites had prevailed, two second choices were crowned and one longshot visited the winner’s circle.

A total of 545 Ohio-sired freshman and sophomore pacers and trotters originally nominated with the top nine summer-long Buckeye county fair point winners that entered comprising the $15,000 championship races.

Dominating Dora was a 2:02.3 winner for Roy Burns.

On the fillies side of the ledger, Dominating Dora (Roy Burns) won her 13th race of her 2-year-old season, downing Caring Gracee (Jack Dailey) and Sweet Adeline (Eric Patalan) in 2:02.3 in the trot. Ron Wulber both owns and trains the daughter of His Highness-Impeding Hanover.

Naked By Nine (Kayne Kauffman) was the 2-year-old filly pace queen, topping Ufpfortydevensgirl (Brady Galliers) and Bunny Direct M (Jack Dailey) in 1:57.3. It was the eighth seasonal score for the daughter of Manhardt-Innocent Sahbra owned by Dennis Shaner and trained by Mark Winters.

Lofty Chip (Jason Thompson) captured the sophomore filly trot by beating Luann Dunn (Josh Sutton) and Soaring Flight (Randy Tharps) in a time of 1:59.2. She has won seven times in 2015 for trainer and co-owner Dee Hotton, whose partner is her father Bruce Hotton. The winning filly was sired by Chip Chip Hooray and is out of Lofty Corner.

Ut Oh Spakiddio (Jason Thompson) scored in the 3-year-old filly pace over Happy Jude (Chris Page) and Feeling Wild (Kayne Kauffman) in 1:57.3. The Stand Forever-Linguinincamsauce lass is owned by Jeffrey Kidd and trained by Joe Kramp and now has seven seasonal wins.

Freshman trotting colts entered the track next with Need A Winner (Kyle Ater) downing Roundtown Rocker (Jack Dailey) and Caviar Cruiser (Jason Thompson) in 2:01.2 for just his third win on the year. The son of Neely Dunn-That Lady’s Hot is co-owned by trainer Jim Mulinix in partnership with Dale Leu.

Canadia’s Bakin (Chris Page) was victorious in the 2-year-old colt pace, besting Dashing Dubby (Kyle Ater) and Crosswinds Dodger (Jeff Nisonger) in 1:56.2. Steve Carter conditions the son of Big Bad John-Canadia for the partnership of Chuck Grubbs, Robert Reid, Sheila Hummel and Jacob Beard. He has won 11 of 17 starts in his initial year of competition.

Jojo’s Journey (Crist Hershberger) notched a narrow triumph over Crowned With Glory (Ed Greeno Jr.) in the 3-year-old colt trot, while Wicked Pleasure K (Ryan Holton) managed to finish third in the 1:59.2 mile. It was the ninth win of the season for the son of Cayenne Turbo-Get Back Jojo owned by Bob Troyer.

Nobles Finesse held off Western Coby by a nose in the 3-year-old male pace final.

In the final event, the 3-year-old colt pace, Ohio Breeders champion Nobles Finesse (Kurt Sugg) added the Fair final trophy to his mantle for owners Dean Davis, Joyce McClelland and the Mullet Stables with a 1:56.2 triumph. Sugg also trains the Feelin Friskie-Lady Lonesome colt who now sports 11 wins in 21 starts and 2015 earnings of $156,858. Western Coby (Josh Sutton) was just a nose behind at the wire followed by Final Retrieve (Chris Page).

Friday night’s card features the $135,750 Dayton Trotting Derby and the $138,500 Dayton Pacing Derby. The Grand Circuit stakes are slated as the tenth and 11th races on a 13-race program that commences at 6:35 p.m.
