Ohio Fair racing contested in Hicksville

Hicksville, OH — The Defiance County Fair at Hicksville, Ohio, opened up its two-night harness racing program on Tuesday (August 21) with 12 Standardbred races and eight Trottingbred races. A total of 114 horses competed on a beautiful August evening.

CC Big Boy Sam (Nobleland Sam-CC Biggirl Bretta) took the 2-year-old colt pace in 2:04. Scott Christner trains and drives the colt for Paul Perdue, Brady Galliers and Jeff Batt.

Ryan Stahl steered Jailhouse Robbin (Jailhouse Jesse-I Like Lofty) to victory in the 3-year-old filly trot. Nichole Gagnon trains the filly with Joe Ewald paying the bills. Jailhouse Robbin toured the Hicksville oval in 2:04.4.

Lovintouchinfeelin (Feelin Friskie-Western Touch) came home first in the 2-year-old filly pace after a mile in 2:04.3. Bill Webb trains the filly and also co-owns her with Denny Miller. Mark Headworth picked up the winning drive behind Lovintouchinfeelin.

Jay Weller guided Scratch Off (Royal Strength-Im A Cricket Too) to the winner’s circle in the 3-year-old colt trot after a mile in 2:05.3. Jayne Weller owns and trains the gelding.

Sierra Sprint (Lotsa Credit-Yankee Chowder) was the victor in the Chuck Peter Memorial 2-year-old late closing trot. Pete Steury trains and drives the filly with Singles Stables LLC being the owner. Sierra Sprint had a winning time of 2:09.3.

Mark Headworth piloted Doowrah Omelet (Threefold-Embryo) to a win in the Jim Corkwell Memorial 3-year-old late closing pace. Will Johnson trains the gelding with Ed Harwood picking up the expenses. Doowrah Omelet had a winning time of 2:00.3 with the last half in :56, which is the fastest half-mile ever over the Hicksville twice-around.

The fastest race of the night took place in the Gene L. Vance Memorial Pace, which is a part of the Signature Series. Ryan Stahl drove Mikes Hope to victory with a mile in 1:58.3. Nichole Gagnon is the owner-trainer of the gelding.

The fastest Trottingbred race of the night was a 1:00.1 half-mile turned in by Sir Kool. Devon Bontrager trains and drives the 4-year-old stallion for Rocky Ridge Stables.

Harness racing will conclude at the Defiance County Fair on Friday night (August 24) with a 13-race program. Post time for the first race will be 6:30 p.m.
