Bulldog Hanover Night at the O’Brien Awards
Standardbred Canada announced the winners of the 2022 O’Brien Awards, honoring Canada’s best in harness racing over the past season, at the Black-Tie Gala on Saturday (Feb. 4). Bulldog Hanover stole the show, winning the Somebeachsomewhere Horse of the Year title, taking the Older Pacing Horse division, and he was also honored as the 2022 recipient of the prestigious Cam Fella Award.
Keith Kash Jr. scores 1,000th career training victory Saturday at MGM Northfield Park
After winning a pair of races on Wednesday night, trainer Keith Kash Jr. entered Saturday (Feb. 4) only needing one victory to reach the 1,000-win milestone. He wasted no time getting it done in the first race on the program, driving 5-year-old mare Ball Diamond to the victory.

USTA invites broadcast funding requests from tracks and horsemen
The U. S. Trotting Association invites member racetracks and horsemen’s organizations to apply for broadcast funding that will be made available in the Association’s 2023 budget. Funds are intended for the use of television, radio, or online production of harness racing events or special interest stories and telecasts.
Robert Groter, 75, dies
Robert Joseph “Bob” Groter, 75, of Wyoming, Ill., died in a snowmobiling accident in St. Germain, Wis., Feb. 2, 2023.
Manchego’s first foal
Three-time Dan Patch Award-winning female trotter Manchego delivered her first foal, a filly by Walner, at 10:45 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 2) at Kentuckiana Farms. Manchego, owned by Barry Guariglia’s Black Horse Racing, retired in 2021.
Robust support of Breeders Crown program generates purse hikes
The Breeders Crown, harness racing’s year-end championship series, will raise purses on six of the 12 divisions of Breeders Crown races to be held at Harrah’s Hoosier Park on Friday (Oct. 27) and Saturday (Oct. 28).
