Hoof Beats: Crowning Glory
Nine years ago, on Aug. 6, 2016, Marion Marauder’s straight-heat win in the 91st edition of the Hambletonian Stakes kicked off his sweep of the Trotting Triple Crown, making him only the ninth horse in harness racing history to win the Hambletonian, the Yonkers Trot and the Kentucky Futurity. And through his six-season career on the track, he amassed $3,392,609 in North American purses—the seventh best of all time among trotters— and became a fan favorite worthy of honor in harness racing’s Living Horse Hall of Fame, a distinction he received July 6 in Goshen, N.Y.
Setyoursightshigh makes it four in a row, Leading Lady rebounds at The Red Mile
On Monday (Aug. 11) Setyoursightshigh and Leading Lady illustrated why they are the early leaders in their divisions with triumphs in the $80,000 second round divisions for freshman filly trotters. The 16-race card also included three $30,000 second round divisions of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series, five $15,000 second round divisions of the Kentucky Golden Rod Series and four $10,000 second round divisions of the Kentucky Wildcat Series.
Wehadababyetzaboy Wins Harrington Open
Evm Racing’s Wehadababyetzaboy ($8.60, Jason Green) notched his seventh win of the season in the $18,000 Open Monday (Aug. 11) at Harrington Raceway in 1:51.4.
Many repeat winners at Washington (PA) Fair
The Pennsylvania fair circuit commenced a very busy week with Fair Sire Stakes action on Sunday (Aug. 10) and Monday (Aug. 11) at the Washington County Fairgrounds, known as Arden Downs during its Grand Circuit heyday, in southwestern Pennsylvania, not far down the road from The Meadows.
A 43-1 Take Your Pick in Pocono feature shocker
As formful as the proceedings were at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania on Sunday evening (eight out of ten favorites winning), they were equally as bizarre on Monday afternoon (Aug. 11), topped by the $25,000 fast-class pace for distaffs, where 43-1 shot Take Your Pick caught 65-1 proposition Turn On The Charm in 1:51.
