Pair of GSY races on Friday at Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — Two GSY events were carded on Friday night (March 10) at The Meadowlands.

In the first race on the card, there were only a few who tried to gain the top spot going into the first turn. It was Meet The Creeper (Bruno Chiodo) from his outside post who made it to the top spot over the fast but wet going in a quarter of :27.1 and a half in :55.4.

He tried to ration out the speed but to no avail as pocket sitter Beachy Boy Hill (Tony Beltrami) popped the pocket around the final turn and was able to stave off all challengers en route to his two length victory. Jerrytone (John Calabrese) got up for second and longshot Keystonefightnight (Joe Lee) rounded out the trifecta. It was back to a non-favorite winner who paid $10.60 for all of his $2 win backers at the windows. The mile went in 1:53.1.

The winner, a 4-year-old gelding, is owned by Kt Racing and is trained by Maria Alvarez.

In the fifth race on the card, with the track downgraded to good with the steady rain, there were two leavers when the gates opened and after a sharp :26.3 quarter, it was the old veteran Texas Terror N (John Calabrese) who was looking to win again as the big favorite. He continued rolling through a :55.2 half and looked poised to win again in the stretch.

With Bruce’s Magic (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) parked and clogging the outer flow, pocket sitter Beach Baby Bee (Anthony Verruso) popped the pocket but wasn’t able to make any advance on the leader.

The early fractions took its toll late as the closers came from the inside and outside and when they hit the wire it was Smileandsaycheese (Joe Lee) who got up in time over longshot Knox The Fox (Chris Petrelli), while Calabrese faded to third. The mile went in 1:53.3.

This winner paid $10.80 for every $2 win bet and the exacta came back a nice $782.20 for a $2 wager and the triple paid an enormous $8,728.20 for the lucky bettors who made this $2 wager. The 9-year-old gelding is owned and trained by Ron Coyne Jr.

The GSY is scheduled to be back in action next Friday at The Meadowlands. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
