Palone & Brennan each win two divisions of Simpson Stakes

Drivers Dave Palone and George Brennan each won two divisions of the John Simpson Memorial Stakes Saturday night at The Red Mile. Purses for the four events totaled $101,292.

Western Cyclone, driven by Palone for trainer Travis Alexander, took no prisoners with an easy front-end victory in 1:51 3/5, a lifetime mark, in one of two $19,022 Simpson divisions for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Palone sent Western Cyclone for the lead on the backstretch and the Western Hanover colt never looked back en route to his fourth win in six career starts.

Western Cyclone was bred by his owners, Arlene and Jules Siegel. Faust Blue Chip held well for second, with Tyrant Hanover third and Fours Good fourth.

In the second $19,022 cut for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings, Shark Gesture won for the first time in four career starts with an off-the-pace 1:52 1/5 victory over favorites Total Truth and Joe To Go. The General was fourth. Shark Gesture ( Cam ‘s Card Shark), driven by Brennan for trainer Mark Harder, is owned by Norman Smiley, Gerald Smiley and TLP Stable.

In a $31,874 division of the Simpson for 3-year-old filly trotters, Sensual Hall rallied from off the pace for Palone to win in 1:56 2/5, a lifetime mark. Sensual Hall, by Garland Lobell, is owned by Idylwood Stables and Watkins Equine. Reinvent flew home for second to just miss the victory, followed by Miss Possessed in third and Nana’s Best in fourth.

Lollipops N Roses, with Brennan in the bike, used a first-over bid on the final turn and pulled away to win the other $31,374 division of the Simpson for 3-year-old filly trotters in 1:56 4/5. Trained by Buzzy Sholty for Myrna Sholty and the Sholty Stable, Lollipops N Roses (Striking Sahbra) won for the second time in 12 starts this season.

Malvictorian rallied for second, with Hawaiian Delight third and Sunday Best fourth.
