Penpaperpaige writes way to victory

Dayton, OH – A thrilling finish in the Fillies and Mares Open Pace saw Penpaperpaige claiming victory in the $25,000 event Friday evening (Oct. 6) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

Starting from post  five Penpaperpaige retreated off the car to situate herself in sixth while Shesonebadmomma fronted the field to a quarter in :28. Alexa Skye made a pocket pulling move to then front the field to a half mile time in :56.3 and three-quarters in 1:24.2. After a second over bid Penpaperpaige swooped four wide as the field fanned into the stretch to win by a head in a mile time of 1:52.2, a :28.2 last-quarter.

Penpaperpaige is trained by Jeff Smith and driven to victory by son Tyler Smith, who co-owns the daughter of Pet Rock with daughter Maevyn Smith and Bet The House LLC. Penpaperpaige now bankrolls over $590,000 and now holds 22 lifetime victories to her resume. Penpaperpaige paid $6.60 to win.

With the six-horse field of Open Trotters scratched down to a field of five, it was Caviar Gold who found triumph in the $25,000 event.r

Leaving from post three Caviar Gold and driver Aaron Merriman made a quick move off the car to make every pole a winning one through fractions of :28.1, :57.3, 1:24.4 to win by one-and-three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2, a :28.3 final quarter.

Caviar Gold is trained by Chris Beaver who co-owns the Explosive Matter gelding with Bill Manes and RBH Ventures. The Open Trot victory now puts Caviar Gold over $408,000 in career earnings and was his 11th lifetime victory. Caviar Gold paid $4.20 to win.

Also on the card driver Brett Miller enjoyed four driving wins. Miller began his grand slam in race three with Lee Loo for trainer Jason Brewer, followed by Anns Marina Delray in Race 5 for trainer Mark Winters and Shadows Dancer in Race 8 for trainer Chris Mc Guire. Win number four came in Race 11 with Scenic Adventure for trainer Herman Hagerman.

The tandem of driver Tony Hall and trainer Anette Lorentzon celebrated a driving and training triple. Together, Hall and Lorentzon kicked things off winning with Cleopatra AS in 1:56 in Race 10, Ferretti in Race 12 in 1:55.2 and Iwont Backdown AS in 1:54 in Race 13.

To close out the Friday evening card drivers Sam Widger, Tyler Smith and Tony Hall all celebrated driving doubles.
