Phoenix Warrior N pulls off a 14-1 shocker in Meadows $20K pace

by Evan Pattak, for The Meadows

Washington, PA — Phoenix Warrior N was racing off a 10-week layoff and trailing by nine lengths at the half. Just chalk it up as a tightener, right?

Phoenix Warrior N and Dan Rawlings had something other than surrender in mind. They roared wide through the lane and pulled off a 14-1 upset in Saturday’s (March 31) $20,000 Preferred Pace at The Meadows.

The 8-year-old Jereme’s Jet-Never Walk Alone gelding was seventh when he launched his decisive move. He blew past the tiring leader, Lincolnjames, and held off Hypothetical by a neck to triumph in 1:52.3, with Dapper Dude third.

Scott Betts trains Phoenix Warrior N, who extended his career bankroll to $235,193, for Timothy Betts, Nicholas Catalano and Stephen Moss.

Dave Palone piloted four winners on the 12-race card.
