Pocono boosts purses for select PA owned-sired races

by Ed Kobesky, Director of Media & Marketing, Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association

Wilkes-Barre, PA — The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono has added a new incentive: purses enhanced by an additional $2,000 or $4,000 when certain races fill completely with Pennsylvania horses.

The monies will be added to 3- and 4-year-old events that are based on pari-mutuel wins and lifetime earnings. If every horse in the race is Pennsylvania sired and wholly owned, the purse will increase by $4,000. For races where every horse is Pennsylvania sired, an additional $2,000 will be added. Only pari-mutuel based races that are non-claiming events are included.

The changes begin May 24 and will continue to the end of June.

Please note that Pennsylvania owners must submit a residency affidavit to be eligible. It is available on the News page of the PHHA’s website, www.pahha.com. The original completed, notarized form must then be submitted to the PHHA offices in person or via registered mail.

Please also note that our Lemoyne office has closed. Mail should now be directed to Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack, Attn: PHHA, 1001 Harrah’s Blvd., Chester, PA 19013.
