Pocono opens 2024 harness racing season on Saturday

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania begins its 59th season of harness racing action on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) with an Opening Day racing card. Twelve races are on tap, beginning with a first post time of 1 p.m. (EST).

Pocono has scheduled 130 race dates for the 2024 meet. After racing on Saturday and Monday afternoons for the remainder of February, the Northeastern Pennsylvania track will add Tuesday afternoons in March. In May, Pocono will begin to host Sunday night racing to bring the schedule up to its full slate of four cards a week.

Many of the track’s top drivers from recent seasons are on the card for Saturday afternoon’s action, including defending driving champion Matt Kakaley, George Napolitano Jr., Anthony Napolitano, Tyler Buter, Braxten Boyd, Simon Allard, and Ridge Warren.

The 10th race feature is a conditioned pace carrying a purse of $16,500, with the No. 2 horse Billy Clyde listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite.

Pocono’s 2024 meet rolls through the spring, summer, and autumn months, before concluding in November.
