Pompano forced to cancel Monday night card

Pompano Beach, FL — Day long rains in South Florida raised havoc with the track lighting system, so the Monday evening (Oct. 17) program had to be canceled at The Isle Pompano Park. Action will resume with a 12-race card on Wednesday (Oct. 19) at 7:05 p.m.

Before the cancellation at 6:45 p.m., just before sunset, a non-wagering race was staged. The Sale Stakes began with the 2-year-old colt and gelding trot in the fourth of five scheduled events this year for the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association.

In the $17,850 contest, Matcan was a handy winner in 2:06.1 over the track rated good from day long showers. Stewart Nemiro of the Bruce Ranger Stable conditions the Matchem Hanover-Cans Money Maker gelding for Fred Monteleone Stable. This win pushed his season’s bankroll to more than $41,000. Lovable Guy, partnered by Jay Sears, closed well for the runner-up spot and Star Of Fame with Wally Hennessey in tow survived an inquiry from a stretch break for third.

The FSBOA’s Sale Stake has an intriguing race set for Wednesday (Oct. 19) in the third race. Cracker Coffee will try to continue her unblemished stakes finals record in the $20,850 event for state-bred 2-year-old pacing fillies.

Post time at Pompano is 7:05 p.m. (EDT) every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Tuesday racing returns on Nov. 22 when the four nights per week schedule takes effect through March 2012 at The Winter Capital of Harness Racing. The full season schedule, free race night streaming and replays are available in the racing tab at www.theislepompanopark.com.
