At the first part of the Prix d’Amerique sale, held Wednesday (Jan. 21) in Deauville, a European sale record was set when the 10-month-old colt Powerball was sold for 300,000 Euros.
The buyer was trainer Thierry Duvaldestin for the Italian Scuderia Pachino.
Powerball is by Face Time Bourbon out of Balginette and thus has the same dam as two of the favorites in Sunday’s Prix d’Amerique, Go On Boy (sired by Password) and Josh Power (sired by Offshore Dream).
Compared to last year, the auction was positive, with an increase in the average price of 8.2 percent and an impressive 22 percent rise in the number of horses sold.
Wednesday’s auction mainly included breeding horses but also saw the sale of 77 horses that belonged to the late trainer Franck LeBlanc.
The Prix d’Amerique auction continues Friday evening at Vincennes. Click here for the auction’s website.
