Nichols, NY — Prairie Panther (Tyler Buter) captured the $12,000 Open Handicap Pace at Tioga Downs on Sunday (May 5).

Americanprimetime (Greg Merton) went to the lead from his outside post and put up all the early fractions (:27.1, :56.3, and 1:24). Prairie Panther ($5.70), who is owned by Laurie Poulin and trainer Mike Deters, sat in the pocket the whole way. He went first-over at the top of the stretch and wore down second place finisher Americanprimetime to win in 1:51.1. Finishing third was Owosso Flash (Fern Paquet Jr.).
Prairie Panther is a 5-year-old gelding by Royal Millennium. He is now four for seven in 2019. It was career victory number 25.
Buter had a driving triple on the day. His other wins came with Seel The Deal N ($8.40) and Race Me Villa ($5.80).
Father and son, Mike Simons and Shawn Simons, each had a win on the card. Mike took All About Rusty ($13.40) to the winner’s circle. Shawn got his win with Wildcat Hilton ($3.40).
