Prix de Paris won by Diable de Vauvert

The Prix de Paris, raced over 1-5/8th miles at Vincennes, was won by Diable de Vauvert, who caught Etonnant at the finish line.

The 9-year-old Diable de Vauvert, with Tony Beller, was able to turn the tables from last year in the Prix de Paris, where he finished second to Etonnant with Anthony Barrier.

Diable de Vauvert is known for his strong finish and he managed to catch Etonnant, who looked like a winner just 50 yards before the finish line. Diable de Vauvert won in a new race record of 1:58 (mile rate); the old record was 1:58.2. Third in the race was Galius, while Davidson du Pont, the winner of the Prix d’Amerique, finished seventh.

Diable de Vauvert is owned and bred by the Ecurie Vauvert, a small breeder from the Normandy region. He is trained by Bertrand le Beller, the brother of the driver Tony le Beller.

The pedigree of Diable de Vauvert is free of Ready Cash and Love You, two of the most dominating sires in France. The sire of Diable de Vauvert is Prince d’Espace, who is sired by Himo Josselyn by Cezeio Josselyn from Armbro Goal and out of a mare by Florestan, he by Star’s Pride. The dam of Diable de Vauvert is Pop Star, who is sired by First de Retz, who was a very good under-saddle trotter. First de Retz has Florestan (Star’s Pride) as his grandfather and this is the only trace of American trotting blood in the breeding of Pop Star as her dam’s pedigree is purely French trotters.
