Dover, DE — Green Racing Inc. and Jim Morand’s Put Them On Hold won the $20,000 Open Handicap Trot in 1:57², ending Zizi’s Comet’s six race win streak. Rose Run Casanova won his fourth in five starts taking the $15,000 Winners Over Trot in 1:57⁴ on Wednesday, January 21 at Dover Downs.

Put Them On Hold (number 3 on the inside) holds off Notorious Buck to win the Open Trot at Dover.

In the $20,000 feature trot, Jim Morand drove Put Them On Hold into the lead on the final turn, passing early leader Always On Guard (Jim Marshall III). Once in command, the five-year-old gelding held off a strong challenge from Notorious Buck (Travis Bowman), who raced outside the winner from the three-quarter mark. So Striking (Tim Curtin) was a close up third. Zizi’s Comet (Steve Warrington) was sixth on the outside following live cover from after the half but had none of his usual power when called upon.

Rose Run Casanova sat second in the $15,500 Winners Over Trot as My Royal Aim (Toby Lynch) cut the early fractions. At the three-quarters, Hal Belote took the Armbro Laser gelding to the outside and assumed control. The Kevin Sizer and Brooks Stable-owned six-year-old then won easily. Play Chip (Mark Gingrich) saved a lot of ground moving up the inside when rivals fanned out and used the passing lane to finish second. My Royal Aim held on for third.

The day’s top pace was a $17,500 claiming allowance. The passing lane bode well for Bret Brittingham, guiding Lauren Allen’s 12-1 shot Big Louie to victory in 1:54³. Race favorite Soul Of The Dragon (Steve Warrington) was second while Ruthless Victor N (D. Mark King) won the photo for third.

Monday through Thursday post time at Dover Downs is 4:30. There is no live racing on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday racing starts at 5:30 p.m. No charge for parking or admission.
