Racing Friday through Sunday this week at Cal-Expo

Sacramento, CA — Cal-Expo will not be racing this Thursday, May 28, but will race as scheduled both this Friday (May 29) and Saturday (May 30), and will also offer a special race card on Sunday, May 31.

The change was made because Hollywood Park, citing a lack of horses, received permission from the California Horse Racing Board to eliminate Wednesday racing programs as well as the card scheduled for Thursday, May 28.

Then Golden Gate Fields, in order to coordinate with the racing schedule in Southern California, announced that it is dropping their racing program scheduled for Thursday, May 28. This prompted Los Alamitos to cancel their Thursday night, May 28, card as well. All that led to Cal-Expo also canceling their Thursday night (May 28) card.

“From a business perspective, it is extremely difficult and does not make economic sense to race on a day when no other California track is operating,” stated Dave Elliott, Assistant General Manager and Director of Racing for Cal-Expo. “We are, however, racing on Sunday to provide those racing opportunities to our horsemen who do a great job of supporting our meet, who lost the opportunity to race on Thursday.”

Cal-Expo’s normal Thursday through Saturday schedule will resume on Thursday, June 4. All post times are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (PDT).
