Racing Officials Seminar announced

by Jessica Schroeder, assistant fair liaison, the U.S. Trotting Association

Columbus, OH — A new seminar for those who are interested in becoming a racing official, and continuing education for those that are, will be held Friday, April 16, at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

This one day seminar will cover all aspects of officiating, from conducting the draw to the submission of results. Other topics covered will be the USTA rule book and promotions and publicity for the upcoming 2010 fair season.

The seminar is open to anyone who is interested, with participants from the New York, Pennsylvania and New England states especially encouraged to come and share ideas that work at their tracks.

A detailed agenda will be forthcoming, but registration for the seminar will start at 10:30 a.m., with classroom sessions at 11 a.m.; lunch will be provided.

The group will also meet with Race Secretary Saul Needle and other Pocono racing officials in the race office and paddock. Post time is at 6:30 p.m. and attendees are welcome to attend a dinner in the clubhouse for further discussion.

It is strongly suggested that all racing officials, for both the pari-mutuel tracks and fairs, attend an educational seminar put on by the USTA to keep their licensing current.

There is no cost for the seminar but reservations are required so we can tailor the day to those attending. Please contact Jessica Schroeder by March 25, at (877) 800.8782, ext: 3212 or e-mail jessica.schroeder@ustrotting.comto sign up.
