PA fairs champ Filly Bay wins Meadows series opener

Washington, PA — Filly Bay, last year’s divisional champion of the Pennsylvania Fairs, made a successful 2011 debut with a game victory in Wednesday’s Tom’s OK Lady Trot at The Meadows. Love U Overandover captured the other $15,000 opening leg split in the series for 3-year-old filly trotters.

Filly Bay hadn’t raced since the Oct. 16 fairs championship, but Randy Tharps sent her confidently to the lead. She dueled with the first-over A Fair Chance for the final three-eighths before defeating that rival by a head in a career-best 1:58.4. Cutie Pie finished third. Bill Fahy trains Filly Bay, a daughter of Chip Chip Hooray-Accompaniment, for Moira Fahy.

Love U Overandover made a decisive quarter-pole move for Mike Wilder and went on to prevail by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2, shaving a tick from her lifetime mark. Lady’s Night was second, with Sephora De Vie completing the ticket. John Duer trains the homebred daughter of Andover Hall-Love You Most for Peninsula Farm.

Dave Palone drove three winners — all for trainer Ron Burke — while Eric Ledford also enjoyed a driving triple on the 15-race card.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
The racing schedule added Wednesdays starting this week at Saratoga Casino and Raceway and the 13-race card was contested over an off track after a day of rain. Lorenzo Dream (Taurus Dream) continued his mild win streak to start the 2011 season as the Jackie Rousse trainee went wire-to-wire for leading driver Billy Dobson. Lorenzo Dream, who is owned by Vince Laurenzo of Clifton Park, N.Y., made his local debut last season and won his lone try, impressively prevailing in 1:58.3. After two qualifiers to start the 2011 campaign, the 4-year-old made his seasonal debut on April 3 and was a monster first over winner, cruising to a convincing six length victory in 1:58.2. On Wednesday, Lorenzo Dream got a strong test from Winbak Red, a fellow razor sharp trotter, who came first over and battled the 1-5 favorite for the entire second half of the mile before weakening to third in the stretch. Lorenzo Dream is now three-for-three at Saratoga and looks to just be scratching the surface of his talent level. He has the same connections as longtime local trotting standout Prime Interest and may just be a nice “sequel” to their top highstepper.
