Rain forces postponement of racing at Washington County (OH) fair

Marietta, OH — The remnants of Hurricane Isaac found their way into the Mid-Ohio Valley on Sunday morning. Heavy rains early throughout the morning forced the postponement of the harness racing program at the Washington County Fair in Marietta, Ohio.

By the scheduled post time of 12 Noon, the sun was shining but the rains had already done the damage to the racing surface as water was standing halfway out in the track in both the homestretch and around the first turn.

Speed Superintendent Mike Swatzel and other members of the speed committee worked throughout the afternoon to open clogged drains around the racetrack and by late afternoon the water was draining from the track.

The races have been rescheduled for 12 Noon on Tuesday (Sept. 4).
