Rickshaw Rumble takes place at Harrington

Harrington, DE — The Horse Lovers United Rickshaw Rumble took place on Sunday (Oct. 9) at Harrington Raceway. The charity event featured two fields of horsemen and women between the shafts of a sulky and behind the starting gate in a race down the Harrington Raceway stretch.

To participate in this fun and exciting event, each team sponsor made a generous donation to Horse Lovers United, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that cares for and finds homes for harness horses who are no longer able to compete. More than $2,000 was raised on the evening.

In the Fillies Open division, Kylee Davis pulled Katelyn Fuhr to victory. Davis defended her title in the Rickshaw Rumble after running to a win in last season’s event. Her team was sponsored by Johns Well Drilling. Davis’ fans in the grandstand made signs to show their support.

In the Colts Open it was Jason Talley crossing the wire first. In the sulky was “driver” Shea Hayes. In last year’s Rickshaw Rumble, Hayes fell out of the sulky before the start of the race while they were still behind the starting gate, so it was an extra sweet victory for the team. They competed in honor of Talley’s grandfather, the late horse racing announcer Jack Talley.

In addition to the sponsors and participants of each Rickshaw Rumble Team, Horse Lovers United would like to thank the many people and businesses for their support and generous donations of gifts and prizes for the event.
