Delaware, OH — Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at 12 noon on Thursday (August 25) and continue through 11 p.m. Sunday (August 28) at racetracks and internet sites throughout North America and Europe.
“We have listed a filly in the future wager for the first time,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing for the Delaware County Fair. “See You At Peelers is eligible to the Little Brown Jug by being eligible to the Jugette. The future wager selection panel felt it was important to list the best 23 Jug eligibles regardless of sex. There is no guarantee that any of the eligibles listed will actually enter the race. See You At Peelers is undefeated in her 22 career starts and certainly should be considered one of the top Jug eligibles.”
The minimum future wager is $2 and all future wagers are win betting only. Every 3-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the 66th Little Brown Jug. Eliminations for the Cane Pace will be Saturday (September 3) with the final September 10 at Tioga Downs. The field is rated 10-1 in the morning line.
Meadowlands Pace and Battle of the Brandywine winner Roll With Joe (6-1) is the morning line favorite for the first future Jug pool. The Ed Hart-trained son of Cam’s Card Shark has won four of eight starts with $1,220,080 in earnings this season. Hall of Famer and four-time Jug winner Ron Pierce drives the colt for owners Winbak Farms, Blue Chip Bloodstock, Stephen Demeter and Not To Worry Stable. Winbak Farms is the breeder.
The filly See You At Peelers and Big Bad John are next at odds of 8-1. Jimmy Takter trains See You At Peelers, who captured Sunday’s $350,000 Valley Forge 3-year-old filly pace over a “good” track in 1:50.2 at Harrah’s Chester. The daughter of Bettor’s Delight has a career bankroll of $1,485,952 and would be the first filly to take on the boys in the Little Brown Jug since Fan Hanover captured the 1981 edition of the race. Marcus Johansson is the driver.
Big Bad John, who is trained by Ron Potter and driven by David Miller, had a tough trip in Sunday’s Battle of the Brandywine but never gave up and finished third to Roll With Joe. The son of Western Hanover won his elimination of the North America Cup, finished second to Up The Credit in the NA Cup Final, and captured his $102,000 division of the Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1:49 at the Meadowlands. Big Bad John has lifetime earnings of $568,732.
Complete past performance lines for all eligibles will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug website: www.littlebrownjug.com.
Last year Jug champion Rock N Roll Heaven paid $8.20 in the first pool and $5.80 in the second. The second future wagering pool will be held during the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.
