Rookie trotters contest second round of DSBF preliminaries

Dover, DE — Four $20,000 events for juvenile trotters contested the second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund series on Tuesday (Nov. 17) at Dover Downs.

The first division for fillies saw Whitesville Beulah record a lifetime mark of 2:01.2 and capture her second win in a row. David Hill drove the daughter of Anders Bluestone and Whitesville Tara to victory for owner, trainer and breeder Gary White. Toni Lee was placed second after being interfered with by Kim’s Command, who was demoted to third.

Designer’s Edge drew off steadily to capture her DSBF split for rookie trotting fillies.

The second filly division began with a four-deep dash to the first turn, but at the finish line, Designer’s Edge drew off by 3-3/4 lengths over Amy Wil and Jazzy Judy to win in 2:02.2. Billy Long drove the daughter of He’s Spooky and Designate to a new lifetime mark for owner-trainer Harry Marsh Jr. and breeder Virginia Louthan.

Harrington final winner Big Al M extended his winning streak to four with a 1:59.3 win in the first division for colts and geldings over Malachi’s Test and Roll Juan. Eddie Davis Jr. drove the son of Anders Bluestone and Bringing Up Lindy — a Bobby Myers homebred — for trainer Eric Davis.

In the second division for colts and geldings, Rhett delivered a wire-to-wire 1:59 score in rein to Tony Morgan over Altar Call and Blue Devil. Trainer and breeder Don Wiest co-owns the son of Keystone Activator and Lake Serena with his son, David.

The top eight point earners of each sex qualify for the $100,000 finals, which will be held next Tuesday (Nov. 24).

In order of points earned, the top eight colts and geldings are as follows: Big Al M, Rhett, Altar Call, Blue Devil, Malachi’s Test, Roll Juan, Bluestone Jackson and Someofmygoodtime.

The top eight fillies are: Whitesville Beulah, Jazzy Judy, Designer’s Edge, Kim’s Command, Toni Lee, Amy Wil, Reality and Annalee.
