from the Ontario Sires Stakes
Campbellville, ON — The eighth and final division to kick off their 2014 Ontario Sires Stakes season are the 2-year-old trotting fillies. They’ll be in the spotlight in four Gold divisions Monday night (July 14) at Mohawk and will head right back to that Campbellville track the following evening (July 15) for five Grassroots events.
The star of this division last season was Riveting Rosie, who was named 2-year-old trotting filly of the year in Canada at the concusion of 2013. Riveting Rosie’s 2-year-old full sister, Rustic Rosie, will make her racing debut in the second Gold division Monday night, in race six.
Bred by Schare Adams, Rustic Rosie is co-owned by trainer Rick Zeron, James Walker, Daniel Plouffe and Howard Taylor. Purchased for $50,000 at last year’s Lexington Selected Sale, the Muscle Mass filly won a qualifier at Mohawk on June 20 in 2:01.4. She drew post three on Monday with Zeron at the lines.
Riveting Rosie’s trainer John Bax is looking for another rookie trotting star and has contenders in each of the four Gold splits and all of his girls will be driven by Paul MacDonell. In race one he has Desis Dream, a Muscle Mass filly he co-owns with breeder Glengate Farm.
That ownership group also has Fiery Eyes, a Mr Lavec filly, in the fourth division, race nine where she’ll depart from post seven. Bax also trained her dam, Aimees Image, to earnings of $231,482 in her career.
Juanitas Fury also represents a second generation mare for the Peterborough-based Bax who trained her dam Gromolas Image. Juanitas Fury is his starter in the second test from post five. Bax and Glengate share ownership of this Kadabra miss with Don Allensen and Gaelic Stable.
A winner in her first lifetime start on June 30, the filly was bred by Doug Millard, who owns another starter in the race, Elegant Serenity.
That youngster has post eight with trainer Roger Mayotte in the bike. The filly’s dam is one of the most successful trotting mares to race in the OSS program, Elegantimage, who was co-owned by Millard during her racing career.
The third division, race six, sees Stubborn Belle representing the Bax barn. The Taurus Dream daughter is owned by Al Libfeld and will be making her first lifetime start. She sold for $85,000 at Harrisburg.
The fillies will compete in races one, two, six and nine Monday night in the Gold races while Tuesday finds them in races one, two, three, five and nine for the Grassroots. Both cards may be viewed through the links below.
