Rosecroft Raceway to open for simulcasting August 25

from Rosecroft Raceway

Oxon Hill, MD — After a hiatus of over 14 months, Rosecroft Raceway will re-open for simulcasting on Thursday, August 25, at 12:30 p.m.

Emerging from bankruptcy under the new ownership of Prince George’s Racing Ventures, LLC, a subsidiary of Penn National Gaming, Inc., the largest pari-mutuel racetrack operator in North America, Rosecroft will be open seven days a week from 12 noon to 12 midnight, offering wagering on harness and quarter horse races from across the country.

“We are truly excited to bring this entertainment option back to the racing fans of the Washington, D.C. metro area,” said Chris McErlean, Vice President of Racing for Penn National Gaming, Inc. “The re-opening of Rosecroft is just the start in bringing jobs and economic activity back to Prince George’s County.”

Penn National Gaming purchased Rosecroft out of bankruptcy in February of this year for $12 million and has committed to a capital program to spend $1 million on infrastructure and improvements to the building and property with a large majority of that amount already expended. Several incentives and promotions will be on tap for those returning to Rosecroft.

“This facility has always had a dedicated customer base and we want to welcome them back and say ‘Thank You’ for their support,” said McErlean. “Admission every day will now be free, and the first 250 guests on August 25 will receive a $2 betting voucher. Guests reactivating their Player Rewards membership, or opening a new account through September 30 will receive a free t-shirt, plus we will have special drawings throughout the weekend for betting vouchers,” McErlean added.

Live harness racing, a tradition that goes back to 1949 at Rosecroft but has been shuttered since 2008, will resume on Friday, October 21.
