Rumble Strips named Ohio 2-year-old Trotting Colt of the Year

Grove City, OH — Rumble Strips’ career got off to a rough start, but he turned things around, setting a world record and wrapping up the season by winning the Ohio Sires Stakes Championship on the way to being named the 2022 Ohio 2-year-old Trotting Colt of the Year.

Owned by Constance Polhamus and Mary Beth Walters, Rumble Strips won just one of his first five starts.

“He had some bumps along the way, but we knew from the beginning he was a special colt,” said Polhamus.

Trainer Mike Polhamus got things turned around as the son of Long Tom won three of his final four races which included setting a world record of 1:53.2 for 2-year-old colt trotters on a half-mile track in the Ohio Breeders Championship at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.

Rumble Strips hit the board in seven of nine starts, winning four, and earning $276,135. The son of Long Tom was bred by Franklin Equine.

Rumble Strips will be honored at the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association’s annual awards banquet Jan. 14 at the Hilton Columbus-Polaris in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2022 Ohio Horse of the Year will be announced at the annual awards banquet.
