Ruth Lenore Schoonover, 92, dies

Columbus, OH — Ruth Lenore Schoonover, 92, of Findlay, Ohio, died with her family at her side on April 29, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 3, 1920, to John and Anna (Gorby) Bowersox in Mt. Cory and was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School and Bliss Business College in Columbus.

Mrs. Schoonover worked at Columbus Coin Machine Company while her husband finished vet school. After her husband graduated from Ohio State they moved back to Findlay and established a veterinarian practice where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for 45 years.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Her involvement with the church included being part of the Administrative Board, Pathfinders Sunday School class, the Adult Choir, Prayer Fellowship, Prayer Partners, Women’s Society for Christian Service, Youth Teacher and the Council on Ministries.

Mrs. Schoonover enjoyed going to the races and county fairs where she would groom the horses before they raced. She was also a volunteer for the Twigs at the hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Hobart; daughters, Sandy and Sharon (Rick) Wyant; brother, Robert Bowersox; and sisters, Dorothy Edinger and Elinor Burkholder. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard Bowersox, Kenneth Bowersox, Earl Bowersox and John Bowersox, Jr.; and sisters, Eloise Christman and Mary Ellen Bowersox.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday (May 1) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Hufford Family Funeral Home, 1500 Manor Hill Rd., Findlay (419.422.1500). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (May 2) at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Creech officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
