Scarborough Memorial Day race to honor Boston Marathon bombing victim

by Susan Higgins, Director of Marketing, Scarborough Downs

Scarborough, ME — Krystle Campbell of Medford, Mass., one of the victims of the Patriots Day bombing at last month’s Boston Marathon, will be memorialized in a winner’s circle ceremony on Monday (May 27) at Scarborough Downs.

A blanket will be presented to the winner of the Free For All Trot (race seven) by Campbell’s best friend Karen Rand, who was injured in the bombing as she and Campbell gathered at the marathon finish line to cheer on Rand’s boyfriend who was running in the race. Rand, a state of Maine native, will be making her first trip back to the Pine Tree State since being released from the hospital.

Scarborough Downs, in co-ordination with the harness racing industry in Maine, raised nearly $3,000 to benefit the One Fund Boston charity during the month of May.

Two additional memorial races will be held on Monday’s eight-race program.

First post for the Memorial Day program at Scarborough Downs is slated for 1:05 p.m. (EDT). Post time for the Krystle Campbell Memorial will be at approximately 3 p.m.
