Sea Silk named 2021 Ohio 2-year-old Pacing Filly of the Year

Grove City, OH — Ohio’s 2-year-old Pacing Filly of the Year made sure there was no doubt who the best freshman filly was, setting a world record and winning the Ohio Triple Crown. Sea Silk dominated her competition in 2021 on the way to receiving that honor.

The daughter of Downbytheseaside out of Silk Purse, Sea Silk won nine of 11 races for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Knox Services, Weaver Bruscemi, and Hatfield Stables, earning $584,092 in 2021.

Sea Silk captured the Ohio Triple Crown by winning the $300,000 Ohio Sire Stakes final, the Ohio State Fair Stakes, and the Ohio Breeders Championship. She set a world record at MGM Northfield Park in the Sire Stakes final, winning in 1:51.2 and becoming the fastest 2-year-old filly pacer in history on a half-mile track.

Chris Page was behind Sea Silk for all of her starts and said he was confident every time he drove her.

“She is big for a 2-year-old pacing filly with a quick turn of foot and could go from zero to a hundred in two steps.”

Page says she is a big horse with a big gait and that’s a lethal combination against other fillies.

Sea Silk will be honored at the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association annual awards banquet Jan. 15, at the Hilton Columbus-Polaris in Columbus, Ohio. Tickets to the banquet are $30 each and can be purchased by calling the OHHA office at 614.221.3650. Reservation forms are also available on the OHHA website at www.ohha.com.

The 2021 Ohio Horse of the Year will be announced at the annual awards banquet.
