Sebert lights up the board in GLADA race

Hazel Park, MI — It was sloppy going at Hazel Park on Memorial Day Monday as the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association sloshed into week three action.

As expected, ‘Buckboard’ Bob Miller shot to the front behind the speedy Distant Memories, but the team was challenged early and hard by Mike ‘Mortgage Man’ Mitchell who was guiding the winner of the first two GLADA races, Likaty.

As the two leaders battled it out and passed the half in :59.3, Craig Sebert at the lines of 17-1 longshot SS Missy Ann patiently trotted along the rail. As the field approached the three-quarter pole it was Sebert’s time to pull on the right line and swing three wide around the two leaders en route to a convincing five length victory in a mile clocked in 2:02.3.

Despite the long outside trip, Mitchell and Likaty were able to hold second and from far back as is usually the case, Jim Ingersoll directed his own Caballo Diablo to a third place finish for the third week in a row.

Rounding out the field was Steven Oldford and Artful Power who finished fourth, Miller and Distant Memories got a small bone in finishing fifth, Kelly Walker and Keep Your Shirt On splashed home in sixth and the driving vet Mike Caston could see them all behind YF Eliminator.

Caston replaced Zaim Cunmulaj in the driver’s seat when Winsome Wonder was scratched from the race.

The GLADA series benefits the charities of Hazel Park’s choice and is presented each Monday night. Owners and trainers with trotters that fit the conditions as noted on the Hazel Park condition sheet are encouraged to enter their horses and take a shot with other Association members anxious to get into the racing action.
