Yonkers, NY – Yogi Sheridan and Alan Schwartz both found the winner’s circle through first-over grinds to win their respective $13,100 divisions of the North America Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trots at Yonkers Raceway on Wednesday night (June 18).
Sheridan won in the first division with 5-2 second choice Barry Black in a 1:58.1 mile. After landing in fourth to a :29 first quarter, Sheridan laid his sight on tempo-setter Big Charlie Moran (driven by Mario D’Abruzzo) and marched uncovered towards the leader into a 1:00.3 half.
Barry Black matched strides with Big Charlie Moran to three-quarters in 1:29.2 and easily disposed of that rival through the turn. Widening his lead with each stride, Barry Black crossed the beam a 5-1/4-length winner with 7-5 favorite Itsoneofthose (Andrew Adamczyk) rallying off a pocket trip for second. Big Charlie Moran settled for third and Love This Bar (Bruce Baker) closed for fourth.
Ricky Bucci trains Barry Black, a 14-year-old gelding by Oardo, for owner Flatland Racing. He paid $7 to win.
A couple races later, Alan Schwartz persevered on the rim with Doo Wop Kid to score as the 2-1 second choice in a 2:00.2 mile.
Schwartz moved Doo Wop Kid out of fourth after a :28.1 first quarter and ranged after the leader, 8-5 favorite Los Ballykeelamigo (Yogi Sheridan) into a :59 half. Doo Wop Kid loomed nearer through three-quarters in 1:28.4 and slid by a tiring Los Ballykeelamigo in the stretch while then wading off a late charge from Fanatic (Andrew Adamczyk) to win by three-quarter lengths. Certify (Mike Polansky) closed for third and Draco S (Scott Keppler) came off a pocket trip for fourth.
Alan Schwartz owns and trains Doo Wop Kid, a 6-year-old gelding by Wishing Stone. He paid $6.90 to win.
NAADA action continues next Thursday (June 26) with the second preliminary of the club’s Summer Series. First-race post time at Yonkers is 6:45 p.m. (EDT).
