So Amazing wins exciting feature at Vernon

Vernon, NY — So Amazing ($13.60) captured the $8,800 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 29).

Frank Affrunti sent So Amazing straight to the front, but ultimately yielded to So Diva (Justin Huckabone) just before a :27.2 first quarter. So Amazing rode the pocket behind a :57.3 half, and popped the pocket heading to the final turn before working to a short lead at three-quarters in 1:25.1.

Turning for home, So Diva reclaimed the lead, but So Amazing wasn’t done — using one last spurt to prevail in 1:53.4. So Diva was a valiant second; Dream On A Roll (Truman Gale) finished third.

So Amazing is a 4-year-old So Surreal mare trained by George Ducharme for owners Nancy and Domenic Longobardi. It was her first win this season and the 12th of her career.

Justin Huckabone and Barton Dalious each had driving doubles. Huckabone had his wins with I Pay Your Salary ($2.30) and Jericho Willie ($2.90) while Dalious won with Mittnage A Trois ($6.90) and Some Royalty ($10.20).

Live racing at Vernon Downs returns on Saturday (July 30) with a 10-race card starting at 6:05 p.m. For more information, go to www.vernondowns.com.
