Sons of Tellitlikeitis sweep Indiana Sires Stakes

Anderson, IN — Progeny of sire Tellitlikeitis swept all three Indiana Sires Stakes events on the Friday (Aug. 18) harness racing program at Harrah’s Hoosier Park: Freshman male pacers Martz Telly and Tellmeitmatters won their respective divisions, while Coach Stefanos split the uprights in the $96,000 event for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

Martz Telly took the speed badge among 2-year-olds with a lifetime best 1:51.4 performance in the $67,500 second division. After getting away third, Ronnie Wrenn Jr. moved 2-5 favorite Martz Telly into the lead up the backstretch and held off the pocket-sitting Prestigious Prince late in the lane to win by a half length. Martz Telly was the faster 2-year-old divisional winner of the evening and also established a new lifetime mark.

The gelded son of Tellitlikeitis—A And Gs Finest recorded his third consecutive victory and has now won four of five lifetime starts for trainer Ron Burke and the partnership of Burke Racing Stable, Knox Services, Frank Baldachino and Weaver Bruscemi. Martz Telly, who paid $2.80 to win, now sports a lifetime bankroll of $89,118.

Tellmeitmatters, the 2023 Fox Stake winner, continued his winning ways and by converting a pocket trip into a two-length, 1:52.1 score in the $67,000 first rookie division. With John DeLong in the bike, Tellmeitmatters used a :25.4 closing kick to track down pacesetter Play Action Pass late in the lane to record his third win in five lifetime starts. M-M’s Bud finished third.

Roger Welch trains the homebred son of Tellitlikeitis-Art Matters, who paid $5.80 as the 9-5 second choice and pushed his lifetime bankroll to $72,730, for William P. and William C. DeLong.

The 3-year-old male pace ended in a three-horse battle to the wire, with Coach Stefanos and Trace Tetrick splitting rivals late in the lane and win by a widening 1-3/4 lengths in 1:49.1 over pacesetter Why Not Now and pocket rival Buzzsaw Russ. Coach Stefanos, a Tellitlikeitis-Watch N Be Watched gelding bred by Victory Hill Farm, recorded his fifth win from seven seasonal starts and eclipsed the half-million-dollar mark in career purse earnings for the partnership of Kenneth Duffy, D & M Trading II LLC and Chris Stefanos, and paid $4.80.
