Dover, DE — Speed Away wired the field in the Winners Over Select Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday night (Jan. 6).
Speed Away lived up to his name and provided the early speed. Last Glow also left fast but accepted the pocket trip. The remainder of the field chose to watch from pylon positioning.
Speed Away, the 6-5 favorite, sped past the opening quarter in a rapid :28.1. The field of the best trotters on the grounds remained in single file as Speed Away and driver Corey Callahan backed off the half to a moderate :57.3.
Arrowhead Hanover maneuvered off the pylons and trotted first-over midway up the backstretch. Somebody Special countered with a second-over trip and in perfect stalking position. Last Glow remained in the pocket.
Speed Away continued on a confident lead reaching the three-quarters in 1:26.2.
At the top of the stretch, Speed Away put away the steady challenge by Arrowhead Hanover late and won by a neck in 1:55.1. Last Glow finished third.

Speed Away, who paid $4.60 to win, is owned by Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team and is trained by Nick Callahan. Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld were the breeders.
Wednesday’s (Jan. 7) feature is the $25,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace. Factory Girl looks for consecutive wins. First post time is 4:30 p.m.
