Columbus, OH – The Saturday night speed show continued at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Aug. 9 when Women Layer cruised to victory in the $26,000 Open Pace, setting a new track record for 4-year-old geldings of 1:47.3.
Sent out from post seven by Sam Widger, Women Layer was parked three-wide through half the opening turn. Twin B Seamonster (Carson Conrad) was on top at the :26.1 quarter with Rock With JK (Cameron McCown) at his wheel first-over. Through the :53.2 half, Women Layer was still parked, sitting second-over. As the field straightened out on the backside, Widger pulled Women Layer three-wide, and the duo easily made the top by the 1:20.2 third quarter.

Surreal Ideal (Joe Bongiorno) made a bid coming down the lane but Women Layer was a length the best at the finish. Mufferaw Joe (Shawn Barker II) was third.
The previous record for 4-year-old pacing geldings of 1:48.1 was set earlier this year by Rose Run Zane and Austin Hanners.
Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains Women Layer for Let It Ride Stables, Douglas Overhiser, Jeff Fought Racing and Larry Wills. The Sweet Lou gelding is out of the McArdle mare Loreenas Ruffian. The win, his 21st lifetime victory, bested his previous fastest mark of 1:49 set two starts ago at Lexington. Women Layer now has nine wins in 10 seasonal starts and $673,329 in lifetime earnings.
Racing continues at Scioto Downs on Tuesday (Aug. 12) with a 14 race card.
