Stanley Zombick, 90, dies

Columbus, OH — Stanley Zombick, 90, died May 29, 2018, at the Lutheran Care Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Utica, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1927, a son of Stanley J. and Josephine Suraski Zombick and was a graduate of Proctor High School.

Mr. Zombick served his country faithfully during World War II and the Korean War as a United States Marine. On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Pauline Carboni in Holy Cross Church, Utica. The couple resided in Clinton. She died in 2013.

Mr. Zombick was employed by General Electric. His true passion was horse racing and training, which he did at Vernon Downs for more than 60 years.

He was a past Commander of American Legion Baldwin Post #845, Frankfort, a past director of the Harness Horse Association of Central New York and a member of the USTA.

He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include children, Maureen “Peach” and Stanley J. Jr. “Chip” (Tabatha); and grandchildren, Cara and Caiden. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; and sisters, Stella Penzimer and Julia Buza.

His funeral will be held Saturday (June 2) at 12:30 p.m., from Wolanin Funeral Home, Inc., 266 Main St., New York Mills and at 1 p.m., at Holy Cross-Sacred Heart of Jesus PNCC, New York Mills, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Whitestown. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
