Stepabovetherest and Tarrific get NYSS wins at Vernon

Vernon, NY – Stepabovetherest (Braxten Boyd) and Tarrific (Jason Bartlett) each set the track record (1:49.4) for sophomore fillies getting wins in the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Vernon Downs on Friday (June 21).

Stepabovetherest ($12.20) charges late to win the $57,000 first division.

Ponynamedwildfire (Mark MacDonald) flies to the quarter in :25.4. Using a :27.4 second quarter she led to the half in :55.3. Peace Talks (Jason Barlett) took the lead heading around the far turn and was first to three-quarters in 1:21.3.

As they reached stretch Stepabovetherest came flying down the lane and blew right on by to win in a track record time of 1:49.4. Peace Talks had to settle for second. Camerican (Jim Marohn Jr) finished third.

Stepabovetherest is a filly by Huntsville. She is trained by Nicholas Devita for owners David Hamm and Glenn Phillips. It was her second win in three career starts.

Tarrific ($2.10) destroys the field in the $57,000 second division

She’s Epic (Braxten Boyd) took the early lead but Tarrific took control just before hitting the quarter first in :27.3. She went :27.3 again in the second quarter and led to the half in :55.1. She cruised to three-quarters in 1:22.4.

As they entered the stretch she came flying home like a rocket ship. She would equal the track record in 1:49.4. Fresh Legs (Jim Marohn Jr.) was second best. Blue Point (Brett Beckwith) finished third.

Tarrific is a filly by Huntsville. She is owned by Margeret Dey and Let It Ride Stables while trained by Chris Ryder. It was her second win of the season and of her career.

Braxten Boyd and Leon Bailey each drove three winners on the card. Dan Daley had a driving-training double.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (June 22) with a 15-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
