Columbus, OH — Steven A. High, 67, of Cardington, Ohio, died June 16, 2023, peacefully at home after an 11-month battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 30, 1956, in Mt. Gilead to the late Albert and Janice (Young) High.
Mr. High attended Cardington-Lincoln High School. He worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation for 31 years and did snow removal for Westfield Township after he retired.
He was around horses all his life, also being a member of the USTA and the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. He loved racehorses, especially a challenging trotter.
He never knew a stranger and was known for always horsing around.
Mr. High is survived by his wife, Angela (Turner) High, who he married on June 17, 2002, in Cardington. He is also survived by his children, Chris Grooms, Hayden Reymer, and Karcy (Nathaniel) Simms; grandchildren, Olivia Grooms, Ethan Reymer, and Kyra Simms; siblings, Bob (Terri) Clark, Dick (Pat) Clark, Bud, Becky Thomas and Paula (Tim) Bonnell; and special friends, Brenda and Randy Miller, who you could find him with for the last 20 years on Friday and Saturday nights for Euchre, dancing, or dinner dates.
Friends may call on Thursday (June 22) at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street, Cardington, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Friday morning (June 23) at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating.
