Stratton, Silva, Calabrese win MADC events Friday

East Rutherford, NJ — With three races on the card Friday night (July 5), the Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club races brought some exciting finishes. All three races were competitive with two favorites winning.

In the first race, it looked like Peter Kleinhans had the race locked up until Marty Monkhouser A, with Victoria Stratton in the bike, shook free to get up by a neck over the longtime leader in 1:52.2. Brazen Brazilian rounded out the trifecta. The 15-year-old Marty Monkhouser A is owned by VIP Internet Stable LLC and Stratton Stable Inc., and is trained by Cory Stratton.

The seventh race yielded a similar result with the pacesetter getting caught late in the lane. This time it was Machlicious, with Tony Beltrami in the sulky, who held a decent advantage into the stretch, but Warrawee Yankee and owner-trainer-driver Mark Silva came flying home in 26.1 to nab Beltrami by just over a length in 1:52.1. Long shot Lovethewayyoulie and driver Bruno Chiodo, who also had a ton of pace and rough trip, rounded out the trifecta. This race went in 1:52.1.

In the 15th and final race, an MADC trot, owner-trainer-driver John Calabrese and Shoemaker Hanover took command in the stretch once Joe Lee and Brownie went off stride and then held off the closers late to win by a diminishing length in 1:55.4. Landia and Tony Beltrami found room late up the inside to finish second, and Bacardi, with Yogi Sheridan holding the lines, saved third despite being parked the entire mile.

The MADC races will be back next Friday (July 12); first post is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
